The best places to celebrate fourth of July in Shanghai

The fourth of July marks the anniversary of this day in 1776 when 13 American colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence. A new nation was born, and that is cause for a beer or two. Seeing as the day itself is on Monday (boo), everyone seems more than happy to celebrate this weekend too (hooray!).

Block Party at District Beer Bar and Kitchen

Get patriotic with District beer bar and kitchen by contributing to their dream of 'Making America drink again'. They are joining the merryment with a bar and kitchen takeover on Saturday 2. From 3pm till late, David Schroeder of Goga Hai and Eddy Yang of the Tailor Bar will be tending the bar and serving up shots (Land of the Free (shots) anyone?) while Jason Oakley of Scarpetta and Coquille will helm the kitchen. No dress code is enforced, expect shirtless people partying hard.

Fourth of July BBQ at Dogtown

Over at Dogtown, they are hosting an Independence Day barbecue that will start midday on Saturday 2. If you think beer and games go hand-in-hand this is the place for you. Get Goose Island draft beers for 20RMB to go with your hotdogs while engaging in a round (or two) of beer pong, flip cup and of course American Trivia. Unlike District, the dress code is worth noting - effort to turn up in the 'Most America Themed Outfit' will win a prize (Trump masks are right here kids).

Red, White and Brew at Shanghai Brewery

Besides getting creative on the slogan, Shanghai Brewery (Hengshan and Hongping branches) will serve up special USA-themed red, white and blue shots, USA patriotic themed cocktails and Harpoon American Pale Ale. They also promise deals on the grub - pizza and burgers. Swing by from 5-11pm on Independence Day itself.

If all that drinking is not satisfying, check out their barbecue menu (from 25RMB) that includes favourites such as Korean BBQ Chicken Wings, Spicy Glazed Asian Pork Rib, Crispy Pork Belly Sandwich with Cilantro Jalapeno Slaw and more. DJ Janet Misloop will be on duty to spin the best patriotic tunes.

Sasha's is having a buffet on the big day itself and for 268RMB, eat all you can from 6pm-10pm. Make it a family event as children under one metre pay 118RMB for the dinner. Besides this one-off event, all Brooklyn craft beers are 50RMB starting from Friday 1 to Independence Day.
