Get your Pirata fix (kinda) at Egg

Yeah, we're still sad that Pirata closed, too. Well, this won't exactly solve all those feels, but it is a sneak peek into what's new from the team. The brilliant mind behind the sadly-now-shuttered Spanish restaurant Pirata, Ling Huang will be serving up bites of her new concept, Latin Woo, at a pop-up at Egg on Xiangyang Bei Lu starting tonight Thursday 11 August through Saturday 13 August, from 7.30-10.30pm every evening. Sandwich and drink sets will be sold a la carte for 88RMB, with a choice of three sammies and a slew of cocktails and coolers. Check it:

Go wild for wax

Daily Vinyl Weekend feat. Soulspeak and TTechmak

Saturday 13, 2pm, Both Music, Free

If you are looking to pick up some good old fashioned vinyl records but the whole 'what do I do with this piece of plastic' thing is all too much, Daily Vinyl is for you. The events, co-organised by collector, vendor, label owner and general vinyl geek Endy Chen (who you can learn more about on our website), are designed to introduce all things vinyl to novices. They'll even show you how to correctly play a record. Nice! This month's outing features a collaborative performance and EP release from Beijing-based producer Soulspeak (pictured above) and trumpeter TTechmak.

Echo Music Festival

Echo Music Festival

Saturday 13-Sunday 14, Expo Garden Park, 650-700RMB

This pop-leaning festival on the former Expo site gets underway on Saturday following some ticketing troubles (fans were up in arms after organisers decided to sell presale tickets at a cheaper price than the early bird passes). On the bill for day one they've got Jolin Tsai (not long after her dedicated show next door at Mercedes-Benz Arena and a week before she plays Zebra Festival here), plus Chinese bands including Queen Sea Big Shark. Day two (for which tickets are a bit more expensive) will feature Jessie J, DJ Shadow and Omnipotent Youth Society. Get full details and book tickets by clicking 'read more' below.

A Chinese classic for free

Time Out's Film Screenings: The Horse Thief

Sunday 14, 4.15pm, Glam, Free (with RSVP)

Every month, Time Out Shanghai show one of the best Chinese films of all time for free at Glam, M on The Bund, with free popcorn and drinks specials. This month, a near-wordless reverie of image and sound set in the Tibetan hinterlands, Tian Zhuangzhuang’s prosaic parable of a young peasant forced into ritual penitence after stealing to support his wife and child is more poetry than plot. Martin Scorsese declared it the best film of the decade.

To reserve your spot, send the word 'Film' to our official WeChat account.
