Sad news for those who love pool parties, silly-o'clock techno and getting five drinks included in the cover charge - West Shanghai's house of hedonism The Mansion is closing its secret door for good.
When is it closing? They're not exactly sure. The Mansion crew announced on their WeChat that the rent lease is up on August 20, and after that they will extend the lease on a monthly basis, but it sounds like they're keen to call it a day sooner rather than later.
'After running The Mansion for 3.5 years the excitement to improve the project is gone', their WeChat post said. 'We have many ideas for starting up a new project, which don't fit this location.'
They also said the popularity of their parties has resulted in more complaints from neighbours due to things like taxi lines, cigarette sellers and hamburger stands.
But the organisers have promised the mansion spirit will live on, and they are apparently planning a new music festival for Shanghai as well as looking for a new location.
