 Yasmin

Yasmin

Arkham, Friday 10pm, 80RMB (60RMB WeChat followers)

Yasmin was a heartthrob of turn-of-the-decade British hip hop/R&B, first appearing on Devlin’s 2010 single ‘Runaway’ before releasing her first solo singer-songwriter effort ‘On My Own’ in 2011. She earned her stripes in 2010 supporting Example alongside Devlin and a little-known Ed Sheeran, and even appeared alongside Ms Dynamite in 2011 hit ‘Light Up (The World)’. Behind the decks she is known for delivering house, UK garage and disco sets and has held a residency on London’s Rinse FM station for years. Check out our full preview on our website.

A graffiti art show

KP Street Asian Graffiti Art Show

From Friday until Sunday, this graffiti art show is bringing more than 50 domestic graffiti artists, showing off their works, skills and also inviting visitors to try it for themselves with workshops from the artists. It's been put together by nightlife promoters SHFT, and there will be music from Shanghai's Yeti crew as well as basketball, beer from The BREW and pop-up shops.

Jay Chou

Jay Chou

Mercedes-Benz Arena, Until Sunday 3, 7.30pm, 580-2,080RMB

These three back-to-back shows - all of which sold out weeks ago - are testament to the enduringly enormous pulling power of the King of Mandopop. In addition to his own hit-laden back catalogue, Chou has penned dozens of chart-toppers for other big names and his smart, inventive pop tunes help make his live shows big events. If you don't have a ticket yet, they're going for at least twice the face value on Taobao and you can expect similar prices from the touts at the door.

8

 Yen Tech

Yen Tech

The Shelter, 10pm, 80RMB

As far as Shanghai nightlife goes, this show ought to be something a little different. The Shelter is hosting Korean American performance artist and producer Nick Newlin, aka Yen Tech, for a live performance that sounds anything but understated. ‘I aim for my sets to be intense bursts of spectacle,’ Yen Tech says. ‘My favourite kind of performances are really raw and unhinged – so trying to transfer a manic energy to the crowd is the most important thing to me. When everything clicks it’s like being in the eye of a storm.’ Check out our full interview online.

There's good eatin' in the form of Pure & Whole, Bad Boy Bangers, Egg, Lizzie's, and of course it wouldn't be a fair day without Strictly Cookies. Head down for some summer good times.
