Every now and then, one of these heavily branded shows and festivals that have become the norm in Shanghai throws up a pleasant surprise - and that's the case this weekend as De La Soul come to Shanghai, courtesy of House of Vans.
The Daisy Age hip hop legends - who put out their first full-length album in 11 years last week - will be performing near Nanpu Bridge on Saturday 3 (of course, three is a magic number after all). The group responsible for classics such as 'Eye Know', 'Me, Myself and I' and 'Ring Ring Ring (Ha Ha Hey)' will be joined by fellow American rapper Kari Faux and China's own Soulspeak and J-Fever on the bill for Saturday.
The previous night (Friday 2), British emo act Moose Blood will be headlining following performances from the Chengdu, Wuhan and Hong Kong winners of Vans' 'Musician Wanted' competition.
Tickets are free, but of course there's a catch (not a big catch admittedly, but still) - you need to get them by heading to a Vans store and scanning a QR code. For Friday's show, you need to go to the Vans shops in either the iAPM or Raffles City; for tickets to Saturday, head to the Vans outlet by Fly Streetwear on Changle Lu (just past the junction with Fumin Lu) or to their Zhongshan Park store. You've got until 10pm on Thursday (1 September) and it's first come, first served.
