As much as we love Shanghai, it's still a little galling when hotly-anticipated movies come out here after everyone else has already watched them and posted spoilers on social media. We all know someone in Shanghai who threw their lightsabre out of the pram when Star Wars: The Force Awakens hit our shores a whole month late.
Fans of Joanne K Rowling, then, will be relieved to know that the latest tale from the mind of the Harry Potter author, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, is being released on the same date as in the US – November 18. Okay, so some other countries get it the day before (with lucky old Belgium and Kazakhstan getting it on the 16), but hey, being on the same schedule as everyone else is something to celebrate.
The film, starring Les Mis heartthrob Eddie Redmayne as a wizard who likes to harass and capture magic animals, is a HP prequel set in early-twentieth century New York and tells a tale that Harry Potter would go on to learn about at Hogwarts 70 years later. It's the first film in a series of five set to be released over the coming years, and the promise of a return to the Potter universe will be enough to get multitude bums on multiplex seats.
Aspiring wizards now have a date to pencil into their calendars (and enough time to dig out their cloaks and officially-branded wands).
