Brrrr! That walk to the metro station this morning was a bit more unpleasant than usual, wasn't it? It's time to dig out those long johns from the back of the wardrobe as Shanghai sets into its first proper cold snap of the winter. Temperatures downtown are set to be as low as 0 degrees Celsius today and will go down to minus one tomorrow, according to Shanghai Daily. For those further afield it'll be as cold as minus five in the outskirts of the city. Yikes.
Yesterday the city's meteorological bureau issued a 'blue cold wave' alert warning that temperatures were forecast to drop at least eight degrees in 48 hours. The cold weather is due to hang around next week with forecasted temperatures between 0 and 6 degrees in the run up to Chinese New Year.
