The 2016 line-up for long-running Shanghai jazz extravaganza JZ Festival has been announced, with British singer Corinne Bailey Rae the main headliner. The Leeds-born RnB singer-songwriter will be playing both days of the festival, in a similar arrangement to Joss Stone who last year performed on two consecutive days.
Bailey Rae has been on the comeback trail in recent months, with a new album - The Heart Speaks in Whispers - and a string of shows in her native UK and beyond, including a supporting slot for Stevie Wonder in London's Hyde Park.
Other names on the bill include American saxophonist/pianist duo Joshua Redman and Brad Mehldau, Grammy Award-winning trumpeter and flügelhornist Randy Becker, the Eddie Gomez Quartet (with Li Xiaochuan) and artists from Japanese fashion and music label Jazzy Sport.
There'll also be a strong China-based contingent with Beijing producer Soulspeak presenting his collaborative project with trumpeter Toby Mak (TTechmak), the always-impressive ChaCha performing live with Aivilox and a familiar cast of JZ Club regulars rounding out the line-up. You can see the full schedule below.
Elsewhere in festival news, Donghi Music Festival is taking place on a beach near Ningbo this weekend and we're just over one week away from A$AP Ferg, Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks and Edison Chen et al at Concrete and Grass Festival, the Suede-headlined Moma Festival at Century Park and the peace and love-filled Shalanaya near Zhujiajiao.
