Gu Wenda: Journey to the West
November 9- February 15, M21- Shanghai 21st Century Minsheng Art Museum, Free
Before the weather turns for good, be sure to check out avant-garde pioneer Gu Wenda's fantastic lantern installation, featuring over 25,000 Chinese lanterns hanging by the Huangpu. Inside the museum is a free retrospective of some of Gu's fascinating lifetime works. To hear from the man himself, check out our interview on our Art page.

Friday 18, The Shelter, 100RMB
Born in Japan and raised in Tanzania and England, Shing02 is a hip hop MC from all over. Now based in San Francisco he's still making the kind of soulful hip hop that saw him frequently collaborate with iconic Japanese hip hop producer Nujabes. DJ spinmaster A-1 provides the beats.

Blue Man Group
Wednesday 16- December 4, SAIC Shanghai Culture Square, 288-388RMB
The world famous performance group come to Shanghai with music, theatre, magic and more all rolled into one as part of their world tour. Check out our interview with associate director David Fray on our website about a day in the life of a blue man and encouraging the audience to look at the world through a child's eyes. It should be one of the stage highlights of the year.

The second helping of Social Supply’s home-grown food festival hits town, with food, booze and music galore. There'll be Chef appearances by the likes of Danyi Gao of Shake, Jenny Gao of Fly by Jing, Beth Cosgrove of Alan Wong's and Brian Bertelson of Hunter Gatherer as well as bartenders including Daniel An of Taste Buds Cocktail Palace, Logan Brouse of Logan's Punch and Yao Lu of The Union Trading Company.
Music to be provided by a whole host of talent including Cavia, China Social Club, Cody Allen and Dee Archer with Gregory Smith.

Friday 18, Yuyingtang, 100RMB
'China's most dangerous punk rock band' are at Yuyintang this week, as part of an extensive nationwide tour celebrating two decades of the band - a milestone well worth marking with them. The Wuhan outfit are often touted as 'China's first punk band' and the long-running act are certainly one of the country's finest and boldest - one recent album featured a reworking of a famous image of a military vehicle entering a certain square.

The Christmas Designer Market
Thursday 17, Shanghai Centre, 10am-5pm, Free
It's Christmaaaaas! Ok, maybe not just yet, but that isn't stopping the Shanghai Centre from hosting their yearly Christmas Market this Thursday. Get your holiday shopping done early with gifts from more than 75 individual designers, whilst enjoying some delicious holiday-themed snacks. Elsewhere, Concordia International School have their annual Christmas Bazaar on Saturday 19, offering you another chance to get into the holiday spirit this week.
