At the Shanghai Centre on Nanjing Xi Lu, you'll find the Magical Forest Christmas Fair until Monday 19 December, featuring 'Santa's House', live performances, lucky draws and a Santa Lucia celebration with Shanghai's Swedish community.
Shanghai socialites will be glad to hear the Paulaner Christkindlmarkt is returning for its tenth year, from Thursday 1-Sunday 4 December, due to the closure of their Fenyang Lu spot the market has been moved to their Shibo Avenue site (near the Expo park in Pudong). If you're willing to make the journey, there'll be 70 seasonally decorated wooden huts, a Candy Huts corner filled with traditional treats, real Christmas trees and more.
A German option a little closer to expat-land is Tonglefang's German Christkindlmarkt, Saturday 3-Sunday 11 December, bringing old world charm to Jingan. They're promising live animals, choirs and Santa Klaus in a fully immersive holiday atmosphere.
For something a bit different, the Basel Museum of Contemporary Art are hosting 'Not Your Typical Holiday Market' on Saturday 3-Sunday 4 December, which promises to be the most Instagrammable market of the season. Expect 40 independent lifestyle brands, along with food vendors, DIY workshops and live performances.
