Here's a piece of good news for everyone in Shanghai looking to escape the city for the upcoming Qingming Jie long weekend: Shanghai public transport authorities have recently announced that your purple Shanghai Public Transportation Card is now valid in more neighbouring cities.
The purple card (as well as all souvenir and 'transformed' cards with serial number starting with 'U') can now be used in Jiaxing, Yiwu and Wenzhou. This is in addition to 17 other cities in which the cards were already valid – Taicang, Jinhua, Yixing, Ningpo, Shaoxing, Huzhou, Taizhou, Changshu, Kunshan, Jiangyin, Huaian, Qidong, Wuxi, Nantong, Taizhou, Zhangxing and Zhoushan.
Green, yellow and red cards (as well as all souvenir and transformed cards with an 11-digit serial number) can also be used in: Wuxi, Kunshan, Changshu, Anhui Fuyang, Huainan, Suzhou (only for public transport), Hangzhou (only for some taxis), Nanning (only for some taxis) and Dafeng (for all taxis). Time to start planning that weekend getaway...
Blue transportation cards are only valid within Shanghai.
