For families in Shanghai, navigating parks and public spaces in the city for trips out can be difficult, with crowds and pollution often making heading out a challenge. With that in mind, Wu Village, located in nearby Wuzhen, combines stunning landscapes and laidback country living to create an amazing getaway for parents and children.

A traditional farming precinct, families will love the village’s grounds, which range from tranquil waterways to bustling shops and restaurants.

A wide range of activities
Families looking for fun things to do won’t be disappointed, with Wu Village offering over 30 different kinds of activities, which include fishing, basket weaving, archery, crochet, origami and more. Uniquely, activities here are led by CCOs (Chief Cultural Officers), special tour guides and programme organisers who will happily customize trips to suit visitors’ needs. Providing guests with trivia and information about each workshop, they’ll be there for each activity and will even accompany children on special outings when parents want some one on one time.

When families feel like kicking back together, they can also check out the village’s petting zoo to take photos with the village’s resident goats and piglets or head to one of the compound’s gorgeous flower fields.

Delicious food
Healthy, nutritious food is one of the village’s defining features and those who enjoy fresh produce are in for a treat. Local dishes like beef vermicelli soup and claypot rice are all handmade here. There’s even a shop completely devoted to desserts which kids will love.

Families also get the chance to select the fruits and vegetables they’ll consume during their stay; at Wu Village produce is served within an hour of it being picked, ensuring visitors get to enjoy the freshest items possible. Even breakfast is a learning experience, with families getting to grind grain and make their own bread at a refashioned mill!

Splendid accommodation
Wu Village has seven guesthouse types that are all named after different agricultural focus points. Families will feel at ease in the compound’s peaceful Bamboo guesthouse, enjoy fresh soymilk and tofu in the Gristmill guesthouse or unwind along the Peach guesthouse’s riverbanks. Each house comes with its own private garden and is the perfect setting for families looking to get loose.
