SUNDAY 8

Time Out Film Screening: Drug War

Every month, Time Out Shanghai shows one of the greatest Chinese films of all time at Glam, M on the Bund, with complimentary gourmet popcorn and specially-tailored drinks. This month it's Drug War. The first of Hong Kong director Johnnie To’s films to have won approval from Mainland censors (the film is also entirely set in, and partially funded by, the Mainland) in this drug-trafficking thriller all roads converge in a climactic shoot-out that is as exhilarating as it is caustic – a ballet of bullets that effectively obliterates the line separating do-gooders and devils. To reserve your spot, send 'Film' to our WeChat.

Glam. 4.15pm-7pm. Free.

Augustin Dumy and the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra

Augustin Dumay leads the SSO in a programme of Lekeu's Adagio for String Trio and String Orchestra, Bizet's Symphony in C major, and He Zhanhao and Chen Gang's The Butterfly Lovers' Violin Concerto, played here by Ji Won Song, one of the laureates of the Isaac Stern Shanghai International Violin Competition.

Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Hall. 8pm-10pm. 180-580RMB.

Salina (The Last Vertebra)

Brazilian company Amok Teatro presents a riot of colour and culture, setting award-winning French author Laurent Gaudé’s play Salina ablaze. Amok’s version, Salina (The Last Vertebra), tells of a rebellious, mysterious orphan girl rescued and raised by a tribe, but she runs afoul of her adopted family when she is forced to marry the cruel older son rather than the younger one she loves. This kicks off a chain of generational violence and recrimination, and ultimate forgiveness.

Huangpu Theatre. 7.30pm-9.30pm. 100-500RMB.

Into the Heart of the City: Building the Future

As seen at Photofairs 2016, this is the first solo exhibition by self-taught French photographer Nathalie Perakis-Valat. For this series, the artist met with a group of men working on construction sites in Shanghai, in order to collect their stories. It's a feel good show, with unique portrait shots of the workers aiming to encourage a deeper understanding of the people who create the city around us.

Art+ Shanghai Gallery. Free.
