Dee Archer - a 'soulful singer-songwriter' whose bio lists the likes of BB King, Rod Stewart and Joe Cocker among the artists that she's shared the stage and recorded with - releases her new EP From Paradise, which features production and instrumentation from Nate Wingfield, a guitarist who has played with The Family Stone.

Tarra Conner Jones

Retro cocktail lounge and live music bar Heyday introduces a new singer to their roster: Tarra Conner Jones. The Florida native has drawn comparisons to the likes of Dinah Washington, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan and is already knocking audiences off their feet here in Shanghai with her varied repertoire of jazz and soul classics.

Huang Jianyi take to the keys with Ren Yuqing on bass and Jhonny Joseph on the drums for a night of contemporary jazz at JZ Club. Support comes from Bulgarian singer Boyana and her Mauritian-influenced band PlaRay.

Hitobashira, Blood of Life, The Machinery of Other Skeletons and Alpaca come together at the Harley's basement for a night of locally-based heavy music.

Irreversible

Chinese act Irreversible started life as a metalcore band, but are a long, long way from that sound now. They describe themselves as 'psychedelic' and while that influence is just about discernible on some songs, they're firmly in the mainstream pop-rock bracket these days.

Xiao Xiao is turning 1,000,000 years-old (apparently) and to celebrate she's throwing herself parties in Beijing and Shanghai. Harper and Midwest Kind

Detroit-based Harper and Midwest Kind are led by singer-songwriter Peter D Harper, an Australian musician who has toured with the likes of Journey and Muddy Waters. Their latest album remained in the Billboard Top Ten Blues chart for 23 consecutive weeks and Harper has received numerous awards around the world for his take on the blues, which often involves the harmonica and didgeridoo.
