

This weekend the maze of galleries tucked away on the West Bund are opening up a whole host of exciting exhibitions, most of which are set to kick off on Saturday 18 March from around 4pm onwards (details listed below). So get down to the river this weekend to enjoy some beautiful creative works in Shanghai's newest art hotspot.

Sophisticated West Bund spot Edouard Malingue Gallery presents French artist Eric Baudart’s first solo exhibition in China, with works that encompass a range of mediums including installations and sculptures. The show centres on the notions of simplicity and play.

Control Point

After ten years on Fuxing Zhong Lu, downtown favourite Don Gallery is opening a second space by the West Bund. In this, their first show at the venue, the gallery sees experimental painter Lu Song’s exceptional artworks, in a show which sets the precedent for the pedigree of artists we can expect at Don Gallery’s new space.

Dark Wave

On display alongside Sha Sha Sha by outlandish installation artist Liang Shaoji, Hu Liu presents a series of intricate and understated pencil drawings in her first solo show.

Sha sha sha

Sha Sha Sha by Liang Shaoji presents the unique and thought provoking work of an artist dubbed a recluse for residing in a remote mountain, and spending his time creating large-scale ecological installations.

Dark Purple

Following his first solo exhibition in the gallery in 2014, MadeIn Gallery presents the work of artist He An, in a showcase of his installations with corresponding texts. Stemming from his philosophical interpretations of form and space, He's art is both progressive and rooted in historical and cultural context.

Our Traits

The West Bund contemporary gallery brings together Japanese artist Toshiyuki Konishi’s latest oil on canvas and paper works, created over the past three years. The exhibition title refers to the artist’s panoramic depiction of common characteristics in human behaviour.

Turtle, Lion and Bear

Turtle, Lion and Bear is a 25-channel silent colour video work created by artist He Xiangyu. The work is rooted in the artist’s interest in sensory perception, and raises broader questions regarding the notions of selfhood and identity.

Jennifer West: 'Is Film Over?'

In her first solo show in China, Yuz Museum presents the work of Californian artist Jennifer West. West's work uses film, installation, performance, lectures and writings to engage with the complexities of the recorded image.
