After closing the doors of its big paint-splattered underground club back in November, Arkham is returning to Shanghai this weekend in the submerged (former complex of sin) Found 158.
Some of the bigger promoters in the city who used to call Arkham home are putting on parties this weekend for the occasion. The opening night proper is this Friday (May 12), with in-house promoters STD teaming up with Yeti Out to bring in A$AP Mob's Cozy Boys. Then on Saturday trap crew SHFT. bring in big time (and big cover charge) Canadian dubstep producer Excision.
Along with The Shelter, Arkham was one of the city's top alternative clubbing destinations since opening in 2012 until its closure due to permit issues in November 2016.
The new iteration of the club has the same team in charge as the original Wulumuqi Lu venue, with the notable exception of main man Reggie Bape who is no longer involved. A member of the Arkham team told us the club now has two rooms: a big main room similar to the original Arkham, and a second floor area with tables by reservation, bottle service and the like. While this may send shivers down spines of clubbing purists, Arkham assure us they want to keep the underground vibe of the original, albeit with some new additions for those who want a break from the dancefloor.
Arkham (Found 158) 158 Julu Lu, near Ruijin Er Lu. May 12. 10pm. 150RMB.
