
The Qingming long weekend is here and there's a whole host of things going on across the city. This weekend there's pop-up markets, a National Theatre Live screening, a charity boxing match, a Grammy-nominated LA-based producer, the Vienna Symphony orchestra and more.
FRIDAY
Addison Groove

Formerly a dubstep mainstay as Headhunter, Addison Groove has been pushing the boundaries of dance music for over a decade, combining flavours of jungle, footwork, 808s and bass. Support from Kilo V, Siesta and more.

Say Yes x Room 303 present Etapp Kyle

Say Yes bring another Berghain resident, young Ukrainian Berlin-based artist Etapp Kyle. He is releasing music on Ben Klock's Klockworks label and playing quite often with Ben for Klockworks showcase, touring across the world. He holds a residency at Berghain and has released on the club’s in-house label Unterton as well as contributing to Ostgut Ton’s ten-year anniversary compilation. For his show at Elevator he's joined by Room 303 lady boss MIIIA, and two more Chinese talents Misloop and Deep 19.

China Social Club

China Social Club takes full control of music duties tonight at their new home, Smash. Frau and PCJ will be preparing the confetti and streamers and playing music across the spectrum of disco, new wave, afro, house and left field.

Tarra Conner Jones

Retro cocktail lounge and live music bar Heyday introduces a new singer to their roster: Tarra Conner Jones. The Florida native has drawn comparisons to the likes of Dinah Washington, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan and is already knocking audiences off their feet here in Shanghai with her varied repertoire of jazz and soul classics.

Hitobashira and Friends

Hitobashira, Blood of Life, The Machinery of Other Skeletons and Alpaca come together at the Harley's basement for a night of locally-based heavy music.

Irreversible

Chinese act Irreversible started life as a metalcore band, but are a long, long way from that sound now. They describe themselves as 'psychedelic' and while that influence is just about discernible on some songs, they're firmly in the mainstream pop-rock bracket these days.

Vienna Symphony Orchestra Beethoven Cycle

The Vienna Symphony Orchestra presents the complete Beethoven symphonic cycle over a four-day period.

Black Out Queen XiaoXiao's 1,000,000 Years Old Birthday Double Cities Party

Xiao Xiao is turning 1,000,000 years-old (apparently) and to celebrate she's throwing herself parties in Beijing and Shanghai. Our version gets you Spill Your Guts, Dirty Fingers, Ugly Girls and Hangzhou's The Pillow Man, plus DJ Extreme John - all for free. Expect hardcore, punk rock, shoegaze and general craziness.

Jiashan Saturday Market

Held on the first and third Saturdays of every month, this open-air market sells goods from around 30 artisan food and drink producers and lifestyle vendors. Regular products on offer include the likes of jam and preserved goods from Amelia's, meats from Monster Steak butchery, Jonas Emil's freshly roasted coffee, a load of cakes, European breads, wine and craft beers from Bottles XO and more.

Duo live sets

Swiss sound artist JMO joins French experimentalist L-N for a set in the basement, with Sacco and Sophia Wang's Peng Zhuang project also on the bill. Two duos, experimental sounds, and of course Basement6's reasonably-priced bar - should be an interesting one.

Harper and Midwest Kind

Detroit-based Harper and Midwest Kind are led by singer-songwriter Peter D Harper, an Australian musician who has toured with the likes of Journey and Muddy Waters. Their latest album remained in the Billboard Top Ten Blues chart for 23 consecutive weeks and Harper has received numerous awards around the world for his take on the blues, which often involves the harmonica and didgeridoo.

Coriolanus NT Live (Screening)

The Donmar Warehouse’s production of Coriolanus, Shakespeare’s searing tragedy of political manipulation and revenge, with Tom Hiddleston in the title role and Mark Gatiss as Menenius, directed by the Donmar's Artistic Director Josie Rourke will be screened at Shanghai Drama Arts Centre.

This Pinterest-ready show examines the popular craft of the collage - the process of overlapping and combining readymade products to create something new. Control Point
