Found within the locale of the French Concession, Blackbird is a nice spot to chill on a lazy spring afternoon. And right now the café is hosting a crossover concept with sports brand Puma called the Puma Sneaker Café.
Running until May 7, the pop-up features Puma decor including iconic shoes like Creeper, Suede, DicBlaze and Trinomic printed on cushions and mugs, as well as some actual shoes displayed around the place.
During the pop-up, Blackbird has a customised afternoon tea menu from 2pm-5.30pm serving, amongst other things, cake in a shoe box modelled after the brand's Bowknot series and B.O.G sock series. For 98RMB, you can choose one out of the two sets and a drink.
The BOG In the Box set offers small bites of black sesame sponge cake, blueberry mousse cake and coconut mousse cake, sprinkled with dried strawberry, Oreo bits and cotton candy. The Basket Heart In the Box holds raspberry mousse cake, matcha mousse cake and popping candy - the perfect combination for someone with a sweet tooth.
All the elements are placed delicately within the shoebox, making for a sweet treat-cum-artwork that is probably designed to make great photos for your Instagram feed #FoodPorn #ShoePorn #FoodShoePorn.
As far as beverages are concerned, the rose cappuccino with rose marshmallow, presented with, you guessed it, a Puma logo, is a treat to the taste buds. Other drinks on the menu include the latte with marshmallow clouds, hot sesame chocolate with milk and flaxseed crust, as well as the berry mountain (soda juice). A marketing gimmick? Probably. But for the less-cynical amongst us, sit back, relax and eat out of a shoe box.
