Why did Hong Kong megastar 张家辉 Nick Cheung visit Dionne Wines twice in one week?

He won the golden horse award and has been known as one of the most beloved actors for the last two decades. Why did Nick Cheung suddenly surface in Shanghai and why was he seen in this restaurant twice in seven days? 

Dionne opened in November 2014 and has since been a humble hide out for many stars that try to shy the limelight of bigger restaurants. Dionne, which is the name of the owner's daughter, offers an unpretentious space where people can remove their masks and be who they are, in a friendly environment with individually prepared fresh food, wine that is true to its value and service that is highly personalised. According to popular demand, a much bigger outlet was opened end of 2016 at Jianyeli, called Chateau Dionne.

Chateau Dionne, a new and much bigger French restaurant that began after the huge success of Dionne Wines at Xujiahui, was officially opened in January 2017 by founder David Lim, who has been in the wine import business for more than 20 years around Asia pacific. He moved to Shanghai three years ago was declaring that 'the selection of wines need to reflect the soul of the place with enjoyable and palatable prices, as I love the Shanghai dinning scene, but not its wine prices'. 

With French chef Richard Mangel bringing with him years of experience from Paris and Cannes, the menu offers traditional French dishes and classics that reflect the location heritage of Jianyeli, a 1930 heritage shikumen. Try fusion dishes such as foie gras spring rolls or traditional signatures such as Eggs Florentine or Beef Rossini.

'Where wine and music comes alive' is the theme that characterises Dionne. There are three private rooms that offer a chance to turn back time to the 60s, 70s and 80s, with nostalgic decor that evokes old MTV classic tunes and the superstar birthdays of celebrities of days-gone-by. 

There are seven beautiful balconies to enjoy the surroundings of the French Concession when the sun is shining. 

The huge success of the first outlet is testament to the friendly and personalised service of the Dionne team, and the long list of VIP and celebreity guests continue to grace the restaurant and its private room at CD.
