Shanghai Metro has announced last Friday that they will be carrying out bag checks on all passengers passing through security during peak times.
According to Tencent Shanghai, the measure has been introduced in the interest of public security to ensure rail travel is smoother and safer for all passengers.

While it may be in the interest of public safety, it isn't quite in the interest of public convenience, as we expect queues to build up at security gates with the sheer volume of people travelling during peak hours. No more breezing through security or pretending you don't understand what the security guard said to you - we're looking at you laowai...
Still, better safe than sorry, right?
