Thinking about going on a short weekend getaway to Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong or Zhuhai to escape the showers in Shanghai? Well, you might need to take note of this.
Shanghai Railway Public Security Department has released news that Hongqiao Railway Station will be strengthening its security starting Monday for commuters heading in the direction of Guangdong and Hong Kong. There will be a second baggage check implemented at ticketing gates before commuters can enter the respective platforms.
Due to the implementation of this second security procedure, the queuing time is expected to be relatively longer than before. It is highly recommended that commuters arrive at the waiting areas earlier and ensure that they do not carry any prohibited items to avoid holding up the queues.
