After ten consecutive heatwave warnings, we're finally in the red. At 12.22pm this afternoon, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau released the red alert, as temperatures are expected to reach a scorching 40 degrees today, especially in downtown areas, the west part of Pudong New Area and the north section of Minhang District.
Under the red alert, it is advised that people, especially the old, weak, sick and young, to take extra protective measures to keep cool. All outdoor open air operations need to be put on hold and special attention needs to be paid to the possibility of fire.

For the next four days, until Tuesday 25 July, temperatures will be touching and potentially passing the 40 mark. From July 26, things will start to cool down when the highest temperature will be 38 degrees, and at the end of the month, the peaks will have dropped to 36.
We never thought we'd ever be looking forward to 36 degree temperatures...
