The British Museum has brought its exhibition 'A History of the World in 100 Objects' to the Shanghai Museum. Inspired by the book A History of the World in 100 Objects by Neil MacGregor, former director of the British Museum, this exhibition explores two million years of human history.
Chosen from 800,000 artifacts, the 100 (250 pieces in total) include a statue of Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses, a golden alpaca statue from the Inca Empire and a solar powered lamp and telephone charger made in Shenzhen. There are also artifacts of ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, and Rome; cultural relics of Europe, the East, as well as the Americas in the Middle Ages.
The exhibition is split into nine sections according to mankind's progress through the ages - The Beginning of Time, The Earliest Cities, Power and Philosophy, Rituals and Beliefs, Trade and Invasion, Innovation and Adaptation, Change in Turbulent Times, Making Connections and The World We Create - with a special local surprise at the end as Shanghai's chosen 101st object.
Shanghai Museum is giving the exhibition a little twist too. In line with the ancient Egyptian relics being exhibited, they have created special cookies, coffee, cakes and even 3D chocolates (below).

The Shanghai opening (Thursday 29 June) marked the exhibition's ninth destination on its international tour, having been to Beijing, as well as locations in Japan the UAE and Australia.
A History of the World in 100 Objects is at Shanghai Museum 201 People's Dadao, near Huangpi Bei Lu. Until Oct 8. Free.
