'Cats are like old pop stars: millions of female fans, very reclusive, billions of YouTube hits, their own Broadway show and plenty of haters.' Just one of the musings of Mark Normand, the latest big-name international comic heading to Kung Fu Komedy. Having kicked-off his tour last night (Tue 12) in Chengdu, he'll be in Hangzhou tonight before three headline shows in Shanghai.
The New York-based stand-up is recognisable from appearances on shows such as Last Comic Standing and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Normand will first perform at KFK on Friday night, before back to back gigs on Saturday.
Formerly one of Comedy Central's 'Comics to Watch' and a winner of the Great American Comedy Festival, Normand is a regular touring partner of superstar US stand-ups Louis CK and Amy Schumer. Earlier this year he released his first Comedy Central Special, Amy Schumer Presents Mark Normand: Don't Be Yourself, a show where he explores the struggles of introverts, and issues with dating and the perceptions of modern manliness. We can relate, Mark. We can relate...
Here are a some more snippets of his material to get you in the mood:
'Whenever I ask out a girl I feel like a flight attendant in the exit row. "For safety reasons, I'm gonna need a verbal response."'
'Breakfast in bed means someone cares about you. Dinner in bed means you're so very alone.'
'I'm already insecure so maybe the bedroom isn't the best time for my girlfriend to refer to me as "boo."'
