Pens to the ready, folks: applications for the 2018/2019 M Literary Residency are open now until midnight on 1 January 2018.
A programme from the M Restaurant Group, that's been running since 2009, the M Residency is aimed at writers of all backgrounds – whether fiction, nonfiction, poetry, screenplay or dramatic prose – with an interest in China and exploring the country further. But, obviously, the main selling point of any literary residency is that poor writers are given an apartment and some survival money so they can focus on writing (or procrastinating).
For the 2018/2019 residency, M will be choosing one creative to set up office in Shanghai for six to eight weeks, with a 1,000USD stipend and a studio apartment for the duration of their stay. The purpose of the programme is to give the winner the space, cash and time to write and carry out location-specific research.
The winning applicant will be announced at the 2018 Shanghai International Literary Festival on 15 March 2018.
But, before you apply, there are a few T&Cs, like: applicants must be over 21, the writing must be in English, and writers are responsible for their own visa.
