As we enter this Christmas Season we fix our eyes on Christ as he is our shining light. This Christmas season at AOM we will be looking at Advent. What is Advent, You say? Advent is the weeks leading up to Christmas. In many churches they use an Advent Wreath. Within the wreath there are 5 candles and each one represents both the attributes of Christ and the gifts that have been given to us as a result of his birth.
The First Candle is Hope. Christ is our Hope. Christ living in us gives us the Hope of Glory. With Christ we have hope for a brighter tomorrow.
The Second Candle is Peace. Christ came to earth to bring Peace to all mankind. The Peace Candle has an alternate meaning. It can be called the Candle of Preparation as we are preparing for the Lord’s arrival.
The Third Candle is Joy. Christ is our Joy. It’s in Him that we can find true Joy.
The Fourth Candle is Love. Christ is the definition of love. Jesus loved us so much that he humbled himself before men and lived a life filled with sacrificial love.
The Fifth and Final Candle is the Christ Candle. This Candle is typically white in nature as Christ is our pure spotless lamb. Also it can represent the fact that he is our shining light. Not only did Christ give up himself as our sacrifice for sin, his light also shines and guides our way.
So as we enter this season of Christmas and Advent let’s celebrate the Shining Light of Christ together.
