FROM SORROW TO HONOUR
1 Chronicles 4:9-10,
Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him in pain.”And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.
The story of Jabez is short but very powerful.
It shows how someone whose name means "He causes pain or sorrow", and thereby has a destiny of pain, experienced the very opposite in his life by being "More honorable than any of his brothers ".
It was due to his desperate cry unto God .
It teach us that we should never count ourselves out, or sell ourselves short, that our origins don't determine our destinies, and our requests should reflect the greatness of our God, and not the smallness of our own expectations.
His prayer points to the divine answer for all human difficulties, notwithstanding even the years of the pain and problems.
INDEED WE SERVE A GOD THAT ANSWERS PRAYER.
