THOUGHTS FROM THE PASTOR
OUTDO ONE ANOTHER IN SHOWING HONOR
Romans 12:10 (ESV)
10 Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.
When you look at the Trinity, they are in such a perfect unity that they don’t compete but always glorify one another. The Father glorifies the Son; the Son glorifies the Father; the Holy Spirit glorifies the Son and so on (John 17:1, John 16:13–14). They are always honoring one another. How can we outdo one another in showing honor? Honoring one another has the power to revolutionize lives. When we do that, the following happen: masks come off, conversations get deep, hearts get vulnerable, lives are shared, accountability is invited, love flows, unity becomes real and members of a local church really do become like brothers and sisters.
The New Testament is filled with so many one another passages. Below are some of them that when we put them into practice we will revolutionize our relationships in a local church.
• Living in harmony with one another (Rom. 12:16)
• Loving one another (Rom. 12:10)
• Carrying one another’s burden (Gal. 6:2)
• Edifying one another (Rom. 14:19)
• Accepting one another (Rom. 15:7)
• Instructing one another (Rom. 15:14)
• Greeting one another (Rom. 16:16)
• Waiting for one another (1 Cor. 11:33)
• Caring for one another (1 Cor. 12:25)
• Serving one another (Gal. 5:13)
• Bearing with one another (Eph. 4:2)
• Being kind to one another (Eph. 4:32)
• Submitting to one another (Eph. 5:21)
• Esteeming one another (Phil. 2:3)
• Encouraging one another (1 Thes. 4:18)
• Praying for one another (Jam. 5:16b)
I pray that God will make us united like the Trinity as we outdo one another in showing honor.
