THE DANGER OF PRIDE
James 4:6 (NIV)
6 But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”
Nebuchadnezzar was very successful and wealthy as he created the greatest empire of his time. Babylon was the superpower of the world. However, he allowed this achievement to enter his head. The bible said in Daniel 4:30 that one day he was taking a walk on the flat roof of the royal palace in Babylon and as he looked out across the city, he said, ‘Look at this great city of Babylon! By my own mighty power, I have built this beautiful city as my royal residence to display my majestic splendor.’ What is that achievement that is making you prideful? Is it academic achievement, financial success, career advancement, ministry growth and so on.
There is nothing wrong with any of those but they become dangerous whenever we feel that we achieved them because we are stronger, smarter, etc. We must remember that God is the one who gives us power to create wealth or to be successful in any of our endeavors. He is the one who works in us both to will and to do according to His good pleasure. Unfortunately for Nebuchadnezzar, God humbled him. The bible said in verse 31 “While these words were still in his mouth, a voice called down from heaven, ‘O King Nebuchadnezzar, this message is for you! You are no longer ruler of this kingdom’”. The worst thing that can happen to a person is for God to humble that person. It is better you humble yourself than allow God to humble you because God resists the proud. I pray that you remain humble as God lifts you up. I pray that God will give you more grace and show you his favor as you remain humble before Him.

SUNDAY SERVICE REMINDER
This Sunday we will continue our journey in our series, EXPLOITS IN A FOREIGN LAND as we look at the Book of Daniel. This weeks sermon is titled THE TRAP OF WEALTH.
Wealth is not a bad thing, but when it consumes us it can become a trap. Nebuchanezzar was wealthy and had built a great city however it was his ignorance to what was happening around him that made him trapped. Nebuchanezzar's dream confirmed that yes he built a great city but because of his sins and his greed he would be driven out of the city and he was.
When we have wealth or are "wealthy" or "well off" let's not fix our eyes on what it is we have, but who it is that provided us the wealth that we have.
Come this Sunday to learn how we can escape this trap that wealth can lead us in to.
