THOUGHTS FROM THE PASTOR
Admiration or Devotion?
Passage: Mark 8:34-38
During His time on earth, Jesus had many admirers. Wherever He went, large crowds of people gathered around to witness His miracle-working power, or to be astonished by His wise teaching. Even today, many people admire Jesus for His humility, wisdom, and compassion – and rightfully so! Yet Jesus is worthy of far more than mere admiration. He is worthy of our complete devotion. He deserves not only to be admired, but to be worshiped and adored for all eternity, so much so that His heavenly throne room is already filled with the sound of saints and angels continually crying out, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty!” You and I were created to join that heavenly anthem, and to live our lives in total devotion to the One who laid down His life for us. But that devotion comes with a cost. Jesus reminds us in Matthew 8:35 that “if you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it.” Are you willing to move into a life of deeper devotion toward Jesus? The cost may be great, but the reward will be far greater! Join us this Sunday as we consider what it means to live a life that is truly devoted to Him.
Blessings,
Jason Sigsby
