So how often should you really wash your jeans?
In an unscientific experiment, one student sampled the bacteria on the inside of his jeans and found surprisingly little difference in the amount of bacteria from 13 days to 15 months.

The microbes from your own body should be fairly harmless.

But Stephen Craig Cary, an expert on frozen microbes disagree.

Cary says that much of the bacteria on your jeans can survive low temperatures, and just one can repopulate your jeans when they warm back up.

Your best bet is to wash your jeans after wearing 4 to 6 times. And use judgement based on your environment. There's no shame in a sniff test.

Jeans that are soiled or have been in contact with food or bodily fluids should be washed right away. Since these germs can pose health risks.

Wash your jeans inside-out if you're worried about fading. And if you're trying to preserve expensive raw denim, you can use an antibacterial spray. But really, nothing can replace a thorough scrub.
