We’ve all heard about the changes and point system that the Chinese government will be adding to the Visa process and Visa types us expats can get, but what exactly those changes will be we have really yet to see. Today we’ve got the exact information here on changes to Visas, helping you to clearly see where you stand.
All of these new rules will go into effect in the following areas by the end of March: Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Anhui, Shandong, Guangdong, Sichuan, Yunan, and Ningxia
While the laws will take effect nationwide on April 1st, 2017. Below are some charts outlining the classifications and the point system the government will be using.

*Please note that satisfying one of the criteria above is not a guarantee of approval.
People had questions about whether or not their existing paperwork will still be valid, and the answer is yes. During the pilot phase any unexpired Foreign Expert Work Permit, Foreign Expert Certificate, Alien Employment License, and Alien Employment Permit will continue to be valid. Anyone with anyone of the above permits can apply for the Foreigner’s Work Permit voluntarily.
Also keep in mind that since the new rules are newly implemented the actual practice of government agencies around China may change based on feedback or issues they encounter. So some of this information may be a little bit different than what your local government actually does.
