Wu Ching(吴卿), a sculptor from a rural village of China’s Taiwan Chiayi, begins his journey of defining the truth by using his carving knife to recreate nature in fine wood sculptures before his new creation voyage of gold sculpture.
Keen in observation and bold in creation, Wu Ching aspired early in life, “Do not follow the others’ steps, but the undone others unable to get done.” He perceived, “Time freezes in my work as submerging into eternity. The rationale is to turn mortality into my work to become immortal. All above all is to attest the truth to transcend the physical life.” Over thirty years, Wu has created fine cuts of unimaginable subtle works.

Since 1983, Wu Ching has transformed exquisite definitive realism into four motif series of Ants, Chan, Eco, Mortality and Immortality in succession, a transcendent interpretation of nature’s original form and a sublimation of profound abstract vocabulary. This exhibition manifests the creator’s cultivation, sense of beauty and art by selecting particularly the best, representative works of Wu’s gold and wood sculptures to define the aesthetics and the meaning of creation inherited from nature and Wu’s artistic nurture.
