WeChat groups are an easy way to get around Beijing and also meet some great people. The trouble is that as soon as a group reaches 100 people you have to be invited to join – meaning that you need to find a way in before you can even participate. We’ve all been envious of some of the groups we heard about and well, we decided to talk about the ones we think are worth the envy.
1. Beijing Women’s Network
This one is a goldmine for any woman in Beijing. The topics of conversation vary and they have everything from professional advice to health tips, so if you ever do stumble upon anyone who is already part of the group, ask for an invite.
2. 北京 buy & sell market – no jobs
If you ever wanted to sell that wardrobe you got in IKEA 4 years ago or just want to casually browse through people’s pre-loved items – you must ask around to join this group. The group does follow strict rules of no apartment sharing or job ads, so be careful to not be kicked out as soon as you join. Oh and it’s English only so don’t you dare to share an ad in Chinese.
3. Cute Overload
This group not only cheers you up with cute pics of well, anything cute, but it also is a hit for many Beijingers making your chances of joining it quite slim. Did we mention that once a group is over 500 people you can’t add more? It’s survival of the fittest on WeChat and one must leave before you can share your cute cat stickers.
4. Beijing apt & room share
Whether you are looking for a place or looking for someone to fill your room when you go, this group has got you covered. This one is also super hard to get into, but considering how many people are part of the group, it’s worth asking around to see if you can join.
