Brewdog & Modernista are joining forces to help volunteers working with animals rescued from the Yulin Festival carnage to raise funds in order to sustain and cure the animals from their wounds. 

Our new beers on tap, PUNK IPA and ESTRELLA DAMM, 

will be BUY 1 GET 1 FREE until terrace closes.

As Modernista is a dog friendly place, dog owners are welcome to participate, always making sure animals are well behaved and don't access the dinning area (both terrace and bar are good!) which is reserved for those who prefer an animal free space.  

Portrait photographer Irina Kovalchuk will be camera ready to take portraits of any person or dog who would like to contribute to the fund, so you can take your prints home for only 30 RMB.

At 5 pm, volunteers Irina and Olga will be giving a small informal talk to explain their work and what needs to be done. 

Extra donations are encouraged, as over 400 dogs are urgently needing all the help you can offer to them. Remember you can donate through the volunteers wechat QR code before, during and after the event. Besides, as the main objective is to get the animals a new home, dogs' fostering and adoption will be also facilitated during the evening.

Irina is the co-founder of QuickPick studio, which was built in 2015 in Beijing and counts with four members of their team: two photographers, Irina and Alejandro, designer Mike and manager Shams. 
Being from different countries, they are however deeply connected due to their love for good «lively» photography, simple but interesting design, and a big desire to make people happy. 
QuickPick takes part in different projects, and not only commercial, as the team believe that kindness can save the world, and any good actions will come back to you one day.

 MORE ABOUT THE YULIN FESTIVAL

In the year of 2011 in the city of Yulin (Guangxi province) began a cruel and inhumane festival, the Dog meat festival. This «celebration» takes place every June and has sadly become a popular tourist attraction.
As part of the preparation for this festival, organizers pick up homeless dogs, regardless of their condition and even they go to greater lengths by stealing dogs from all over China to bring them afterwards, however many die during the transportation.
As a response to this, many volunteers try to stop the trucks that carry the animals before they are sacrificed, and then taken to local shelters. This has been a great effort but nevertheless many dogs arrive sick and the situation has become worse year by year.
You can find online all kind of information regarding the festival and the actions that different private individuals and organizations are taking in order to ban it, and how they try to ease the animals' suffering while it is still happening.

WHO ARE THE 

VOLUNTEERS 

AND WHAT THEY NEED?

Volunteer Olga Gusak, as many other individuals, started this year her personal fight against the Yulin festival killings horrified by the cruel stories and the news of what the animals involved were suffering.
In the beginning she just donated money, but after visiting one of the shelters where the rescued animals are treated, started to help with medical and financial organization. 
Now she is one of the most active volunteers working with dogs victims from Yulin festival in her city, Guangzhou, where she lives with her husband, a squirrel and two dogs. 
 Olga has always been worried about homeless animals, trying to make their lives better, and her friends recall anecdotes of her even almost stealing abused animals from their cruel owners in order to free them from their sufferings. 

By June 2016, volunteers have saved about 450 dogs, and over 200 still need urgent help as for today. Some have found happy homes, but your help is needed to help us hire 4 veterinarians to support the remaining dogs. The cost for each doctor is about 7000 RMB per month. The other expenses (renting the shelter, food and others) count for 7000 RMB per day for all the remaining dogs.
