Blackwater has long been established as Beijing's Irish music darlings. Their performances are a promise of an amazing musical story teller experience, with a blend of traditional and modern Irish musical components and narratives. No doubt also you'll have fun, as dancing and socializing is also part of the tradition!

THE MUSIC
BlackWater is based in Beijing, China. The band draws from the rich traditional Irishrepertoire (The Limerick Rake, The Foggy Dew, Wild Rover, I’ll Tell Me Ma, Spancill Hill, John Ryan’s Polka.... and much more) to create a tapestry of the Irish tradition. From beautiful ballads to frenzied jigs and electric reels, BlackWater is, without doubt, the most authentic Irish band one can listen to in China.
But never content to rest, BlackWater is determined to constantly explore new territory. The addition of Cedric Lebailiff to the band promises to bring a new level of excitement to its stage show
Having brought the irish ballad and dance traditions to China, the members ofBlackWater are now adding new elements and new excitement to the stage. They are embracing the rich tradition of Celtic Rock, and the equally rich, if more chaotic tradition, of Irish Punk, to bring to the stage their own exciting, lively, traditional thoroughly modern and (let's not forget) loud new sound.

THE HISTORY
BlackWater has performed Irish music in China since 2009. It has played in countless bars and pubs around Beijing, and also has performed on much bigger stages, as the National Library of China Concert Hall and the Tianjin Concert Hall.
The band is regurlarly invited to perform at music festivals around China (Dong Folk Festival, Music on Water at Zhujiajiao, Shanghai, World Music festival of Hohot, Inner Mongolia) alongside musicians from all over the world.
The Irish community of Beijing and the Irish Embassy also trust BlackWater to bring its authentic touch to many public and private events. The band have had the honor of performing for two presidents of Ireland, President Mary McAleese (Beijing, June 2010) and President Michael D.Higgins (Hangzhou, December 2014). BlackWater recorded a CD named ‘Blackwater’ for Tree Music Label in 2010.

乐队成员来自世界各地：主唱Desmond McGarry，加拿大籍爱尔兰人; 手风琴手Zoé Wang（王怡），中国；鼓手，笛子兼歌手Kyle Daley，美国；吉他手Nico Torrese，法国 , 鼓手Cedric Lebaillif，法国。乐队成立6年来，他们曾在北京的酒吧，爱尔兰使馆，音乐节以及天津音乐厅，北京国图音乐厅……举办过多次音乐会。但是，他们最特别的演出，是2014年12月和2010年6月献给爱尔兰总统的表演。想听纯正的爱尔兰音乐，跳纯正的踢踏舞，来看“黑水”吧！曾出与乐队同名CD《Blackwater》
BAND MEMBERS
Desmond McGarry
(Ireland/Canada)
A native of Dublin, Ireland, Desmond brings to BlackWater an encyclopedic knowledge of Irish songs and ballads, which, combined with a profound understanding of Irish vocal traditions, brings authenticity to the band... the kind of authenticity that can only be achieved by decades of singing in kitchens, pubs, bars, concert stages and wherever else he is allowed to sing. The voice isn't too bad either.
Zoe Wang
(China)
Zoe Wang, the band's virtuoso accordion player, has a long history of performance in China and is well known in Beijing as a supremely gifted jazz accordionist. Prior to forming BlackWater, she fronted The No Name Trio known for years for its brilliant gypsy jazz. Internationally trained, she is also a gifted composer and arranger and her fine hand can be felt in the exciting and decidedly modern arrangements of traditional Irish dance tunes, that is a hallmark of the bands repertoire. But it is in performance that she comes to the fore as her fingers take off and she effortlessly slides into top gear, leaving listeners and dancers breathless.
Matt Gaillard
(France)
Born and raised in Britany, probably the most Celtic province of France, Matt Gaillard is a talented bass player with a long musical experience, both in France and China. He lives in Beijing for more than 10 years where he has played along with many international and Chinese musicians of the rock/metal/punk scene. Besides playing with Blackwater, he also is the baryton guitar player in Scare The Children.
Nico Torrese
(France)
The founder of BlackWater, Nico Torrese is a veteran guitarist, playing all genres from jazz to rock to traditional. Before coming to China he performed in France and Ireland. In China he is perhaps best known for his role in The No Name Trio, playing gypsy jazz guitar, and more recently as the guitarist for the Beijing Beatles. Nico brings to the band the deft assured fluidity of an acknowledged master. He also brings an element of jazz in his performance and rhythmic feel. His arrangements are remarkable, both for their reverence for the tradition, and their modernity.
Cedric Lebaillif
(France)
The newest member of BlackWater, Cedric is well known in Beijing for his talented and versatile drumming. Familiar with big sound and big stages with his two main bands, Devils At The Crossroads and Scare The Children, he brings new excitement to the band as it moves into the next stage of its evolution.
