【THU 08.27】Arabic Music: HADI ELDEBEK “世界音乐工作室” 阿拉伯节奏与舞蹈

This Thursday night, Modernista welcomes again arabic master Hadi Eldebek, flying directly from New York, and accompanied this time by a troupe of teachers and artists from the renowed Compass World Arts association.

Hadi will first lead a discussion panel for creative and cultural professionals and artists as an exploration of the emerging field of cultural entrepreneurship, followed by an workshop on arabic rythm and dance by professor Ramzi El-Edlibi. Afterwards, musicians will take the stage to take the audience into a journey through the magic of the Arabic musical tradition.

Hadi Eldebek is New York City-based oud player, singer and composer. His focus is Arabic music interpreted through a contemporary and multi-genre/multi-ethnic perspective.

Hadi began his oud studies at the Lebanese National conservatory before moving to New York to continue with oud and violin master Simon Shaheen. Since then, he has played with groups of diverse backgrounds, such as Indian, Japanese, Turkish and Greek, and collaborated with playwright Heather Raffo on the score for her play 9 Parts of Desire, performing with the touring production. He joined the New York Arabic Orchestra at its launch in 2007-2008, and in 2009, began as a Teaching Artist for Silk Road Connect, visiting New York City’s public schools to educate youth about the oud and Arabic music. In 2010, he became a member of the Silk Road Ensemble, and later joined the Brooklyn Philharmonic as composer for the 2012-2013 Outside-In Fellowship.

Ramzi Eledlibi (World dance and percussion) Ramzi El-Edlibi started his career in Lebanon where he danced around the world with various prestigious artists and organizations, such as Marwan and Wadia Garrar, Carrakalla dance Co, Feiruz, Sabah, Nasri Shams-eldin and many others.

Since coming to the US, Ramzi has expanded into the art of world dance, studying Flamenco, Classical Ballet, Indian and many other types of dance. At the present moment, Ramzi El-Edlibi is the Artistic Director and Performer of Dance Around the World. Ramzi also incorporates percussion and dance into projects presenting traditional Arabic music and dance. Ramzi is also a master drummer who has performed with leading musicians of Arabic music in the USA, Europe and the Middle East.Currently, Ramzi El-Edlibi is writing a book about Arabic poly-rhythms from Morocco and Maghreb, to the Gulf and the Levant.
