Here at Modernista Jazz has a special place in our hearts. That's why we have our Sunday Jazz Series. Every Sunday (and a few weekdays) we dedicate the evening to this enigmatic and celebrated musical genre with live bands. It's not just any Jazz though, each evening is its own style within the genre, from the classic to the experimental and everything in between. Be you new or a connoisseur, can come and delight in all things Jazz.

This Thursday, four awesome musicians firstly step on our stage with their unique styles! Combining pop, jazz, rock, and world music, the genre of this band is as undefinable as unforgettable. With Shi Muchen on vocals and keyboard, Shu Kunquan on drums, Sun Haojia on guitar, and Cai Xinhao on bass, this band has some serious personality you simply cannot miss out.

Jazz at its finest, played by the Project: 10000 with their album release this Sunday evening. Their authentic jazz style emerged from the unique perspectives on jazz each band member has, creates a personal touch to the genre. Combining multiple instruments and tweaking standard conventions, With Anthony Tropea on trumpet, Zhang Meng's solid piano skills, and the unmatched talents of guitarist Willock Lee, bassist Zhang Tianyi, and Yang Chen the drummer. Each song seems to create an interactive dialogue with the audience. Come over and experience it yourself!

Expect lots of beautifully crafted effects as Satellite Trio visits Modernista this Thursday for another experimental jazz night. They have a big following, so make sure to make a reservation if you want to listen to guitar player Satoshi Kataoka’s creative tunes. With old timer Xiao Dou joining on drums and Nathaniel Gao on sax, is guaranteed to be a night to remember!

Ready for a new jazz experience? Join us as improvisational jazz trio Bad Monk hits our stage for the first time, with special guest Wen Zhiyong on trumpet and electronic effects. With regulars Nathaniel Gao on sax, Simone Schirru on guitar, and Xiao Dou on drums, they promise to deliver a fast ride, dreaming jazz kind of night. Melodic yet unpredictable in their turns, we know already magic happens when these bad four jump up together on stage.
