Those who were there during those epic Latin Nights last year at Modernista know that we aren't joking! And you already know you won't miss them, because this band isn't any band, and this latin night isn't like other latin nights in town...

We are proud to present mythic latin band SAVOR LATINO, con V de Venezuela, which will make sure you keep moving your salsa ass every Monday at Modernista! 

The band is formed by singer Gilberto Romero, Fraivan "Concha" Aponte on drums, Jose Gregorio Perez on keyboard, Rolando on bass and Christian J. Ruiz on percussion.

乐队去年登录摩登尼斯塔的时候已经引起轰动，现今千呼万唤终于归来，所有拉丁舞萨萨舞爱好者势必空群出动，京城其中一个最狂热的拉丁舞会，万众期待！

MORE ABOUT THE BAND

GILBERTO ROMERO

(SINGER)

Born and raised in Valencia, Venezuela, Gilberto started singing as a young boy. He joined several small bands in his neighbourhood, playing small percussion instruments and singing typical music from Venezuela. He participated in different contests and festivals singing and creating large crowd following.

Shortly after, he started playing and singing with famous music bands in Venezuela, like Fernando Colina Su “BANDA CARIBENA”, Orquesta La Mayor, Orquesta LaTremenda, Orquesta La Premier, Orquesta Los Melodicos, among others. In October 2003 he had the opportunity to travel to China to sing with famous local latin band known as “MAKORE” in Beijing latin bar “LATINOS”.

In 2005, another top Beijing based latin club “SALSA CARIBE” decided to bring him on board as the lead singer. With 2 of his old band mates, they formed a new band known as “SAVOR LATINO”.

Shortly after forming this new band, he decided to work more on independent songs and try his hands on some solo performances. He has since written and sang some songs he wrote and produced himself.

As a solo artist, he has participated in diffferent music events around China, including music shows on Nanning TV, BTV, CCTV 2, 8 and 9, and recently, the 2016 new year event at the Forbiden City, he was also at the great wall music party for the next Winter Olympic Games 2022 to be hosted in Beijing.

FRAIVAN "CONCHA" APONTE

(DRUMMER & PERCUSSIONIST)

Born in Mariara in the Venezuelan state of Carabobo, Fraivan has been a musician since he was a child, becoming an expert percussionist and also a professional DJ.  Since the age of 14, he started taking classes with professor Orlando Poleo, working to improve his technique. Later, he formed part of renowned Venezuelan national and regional orchestras, such as “Ildemaro y su Orquesta”, “Erick Franchesky y su Orquesta”, “Dimensión de Siempre”, “Grupo Mezcla”, “Grupo Kaffe”, “Grupo Mangüe”, “Grupo Alteración”, “Grupo Fascinación” amongst many others, and also shared the stage with world class musicians such as Óscar de León, Michael Font and Sergio Gallardo.

In 2003, he moved to China where he worked in clubs like “Latinos”, “Buffalo”, “Salsa Caribe” and “Eudora Station”, as part of the bands “Makore”, “Grupo Swing” and “SaVor Latino”. Besides, he became a brand musician for Tonydrums LP, forming part of the Latin Music Conference in Xiangxi, Hunan Province. 

JOSE GREGORIO PEREZ

(KEYBOARD)

Also born in Venezuela, Jose Gregorio Perez is a professional multi intrumentalist  and composer who masters piano, bass, guitar and percussions.

His long musical carrer started studying at well known music schools in his home country, like the Fundacion Biggot in Caracas, the Federico Villegas music school in Maracay, and the TMV technological institute of music Valencia Edo in Carabobo. There he adquired a wide knowledge in different music styles including jazz, latin, pop rock, Afro Caribbean percusion, and others. 

Over 25 years, he has travelled as a professional musician through Venezuela, Europe, Russia, China and South Korea.

ROLANDO

(BASSIST)

Rolando is a professional bassist, composer and arranger, and has worked in the music scene since age of 15, when he discovered his passion for this art. 

He began performing with guitars but then won the heavy sound of the bass guitar, an instrument executed since, perfecting each style, rock, pop, jazz, blues, funk, reggae and Latin music. He has participated as a special guest in the recording of albums, concerts and festivals.

In 2009 he ventured to work in the exotic and demanding Asian lands, moving to Beijing where he is currently practicing his profession, and giving his best to the Chinese audience.

CHRISTIAN J. RUIZ

(PERCUSSION)

Christian J. Ruiz is a Puerto Rican American born and raised in New York City. He started his life in music at the young age of five playing congas at the church he was attending at time. From there he dabbled in many other musical things, including singing, beat box, drum kit, congas, bongos, cajon, etc. 

Kris is a very versatile musician and plays a long list of different of genres like Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Rock, Funk, Bossa Nova, and more. This musical versatility comes from his genuine love of music, and his parents, as being raised in the Bronx, he grew up listening to Hip-Hop and R&B, while his Puerto Rican background exposed him to Latin music. Also, his father played saxophone, guitar, and sang, and his mother was a DJ in a underground radio station, giving young Kris the exposure to many styles like Smooth Jazz, Motown, Funk, Disco, etc…
