Beauty, moderation and substance. Everything needed to define the project of this young band, already set to be one of the best in their genre in Europe. The line up, put together by guitarist Marco Giongrandi underlines the “not-only-jazz” approach, well balanced with lyricism full of expression and a remarkable interplay between the four instruments. Highly recommended also to those to whom the word “Jazz” conjures feelings of dread. It’s worth it. This summer, Soares will come to China with their new album “Departures”— Let their music carry you to the Mediterranean to feel the salty breeze of the sea and the gentle sunlight at sunset.

MORE ABOUT THE BAND
Soares started playing in 2012, their name coming from Bernard Soares, the protagonist of Pessoa's "the book of disquiet", a man that was sentenced to suffer from insomnia, always standing by the window silently, his mind wandering between the inner world and the outside. Soares’ music is similar, like a man’s secret conversation with himself or the world.
Soares组建于2012年，乐队的名字来源于费尔南多佩索阿小说《惶然录》里的主人公Bernard Soares, 一个被判失眠的独居男人，总是静默地站在窗前，思绪则来回穿梭于外界与自身。Soares的音乐亦是如此，仿佛一个人与自己或世界的隐秘对话，内心充满细微情绪，外表又沉静如迷。
In April 2015, “Departures”, Soares’ first album, was released on Honolulu Records. Is a jazz album with clear ties to European music and strong melodic components linked to the Mediterranean culture. There Marco moves like a sailor, experienced through years of hard working, balanced, never intrusive, wisely led musicianship serving the music when is need it. Every track represents a little tale aiming to involve the audience in a walk from the main theme of inquietude to a hopeful and bright ending.
2015 年4 月,Soares 在 Honolulu Records 发布了他们的第一张唱片“Departures”（出发）。专辑名来源于专辑内的同名歌曲“Departures”，Marco认为这首曲子涵盖了他音乐中的所有特质，另一方面“出发”又意味着与旧事物的告别与新事物的相遇，正映射了当时正在旅途中的他的生活境况。
“Departures”与欧洲音乐有着清晰的脉络联结，强烈鲜明的旋律体现了独特的地中海文化特质。在这张专辑中，Marco Giongrandi像一个航海多年的水手那样身手矫捷地自由移动，经验丰富，时刻保持平衡，温和而无侵犯性。唱片中每一首作品都通过在结尾呈现一个纯净的黄昏美景，让听众从躁动的旋律过渡到富有希望和光明的感觉，营造出大海般宽广的场景。
Giongrandi is the author for most of the compositions in the album, except for the sophisticated “The Falling Snow” (R.Chiaberta), the modern jazz tune “Song for J” (P.Martinelli) and one cover, re-arranged by Giongrandi – the melifluous “Please, please, please, Let Me Get What I Want” by The Smiths.
Thus, the album is the unique, carefully designed outcome of a well defined and singular project, a sort of fusion between north and south where the typical afro-american rhythm section is replaced by the melodic-harmonic interposition that underlines the tune’s lyricism. Guitar and Tenor Saxophone create the texture for every single tune through a dense conversation, made of quotes and solos, never excessive, that keep on pushing the melodic limit.
Marco Giongrandi是Soares的核心，这张专辑里大多数的曲目为Giongrandi的原创，除了“The Falling Snow” (R.Chiaberta)，现代爵士 “Song for J” (P.Martinelli) 和一首由Giongrandi重新演绎的The Smiths乐队的“Please, please, please, Let Me Get What I Want”。Marco Giongrandi催化并细致地分配每一种乐器的声音，小心控制着节奏和动态平衡，创造出了一种独特的音乐风格。以往爵士乐中作为主导的摇摆乐节奏不再是一种必须，旋律与和声取而代之，凸显了音乐的抒情性：吉他和次中音萨克斯的紧密对话为每一首乐曲创造出一种独特的质地，不断推进旋律的极限。
THE MUSICIANS
MARCO GIONGRANDI
Marco Giongrandi 出生于1987年,从14岁就开始学习吉他。2006 年到 2010 年间,他师从RobertoCecchetto,完成了在米兰国际音乐学院Civivi爵士乐课程的学习。在这四年的时间里,他还参加了Marco Vaggi, Gabriele Comeglio,Franco Cerri, Enrico Intra 等大师训练班。2009 年,Giongrandi 参加了由Paolo Fresu主办的努奥罗(Nuoro)爵士暑期课程,获得了奖学金并与其他优秀学生组成了一个乐队。作为”Theclose-Far Collective”乐队的一员,他在 2010 年意大利贝尔基达”Time in Jazz”音乐节和 2010 年意大利努奥罗爵士音乐节上演出。2010 年 9 月,Giongrandi开始在米兰G. Verdi 音乐学院的爵士乐专业进修,并于2014年10月满分毕业。2011年,Giongrandi开始与歌手Marta Del Grandi 合作,组建了乐队MartaDG Quartet,担任吉他手和编曲。MartaDG Quartet 还在保时捷青年现场音乐比赛中赢得LucioDalla 特别奖以及第二名。此后,乐队在意大利北部进行了巡演,并在爵士乐杂志《Musica Jazz》发布了Giongrandi的作品”Tremolio”。
自2012 年起,Giongrandi与不同的音乐人和制作人合作,包括”Big Band Jazz Company” 的主办者GabrieleComeglio 、意大利演奏家MassiomoLopez。在 2014 年,他和乐队CristianoPomante Quarter 在埃尔法音乐录制了唱片”LaStoria”,五月份与他组成乐队”MarcoGiongrandi Soares 4et”录制了他第一支独立编曲的唱片,发布在 Honolulu Records(2015)。
RICCARDO CHIABERTA
Riccardo Chiaberta，鼓手和作曲家，现居伦敦。他出生于1986 年2月28日的意大利韦尔巴尼亚,9岁开始接触音乐,学习钢琴。1999 年,他开始跟随DavideMerlino学习鼓和打击乐。他在大学本科在科莫G.Verdi 音乐学院师从AbertoMandarini 和PaoloPasqualin, 并成为最高荣誉毕业生。随后,他在米兰G.Verdi 音乐学院跟随RiccardoLuppi 和StefanoBagnoli 学习,再次以最高荣誉完成硕士课程。2007年到2013年, 他跟随Ramberto Ciammarughi学习钢琴, 2010年到2011年,跟随Fabrizio Sferra学习爵士鼓。他在多个意大利爵士乐比赛中成绩优异: 2012年“Jazz by the Pool”比赛一等奖; “ContestFara Music 2010”一等奖; “ bestmusician”奖学金 ; “ConcorsoPercfest 2010”一等奖; 2013年Conad翁布里亚爵士音乐比赛二等奖; 2014年Conad翁布里亚爵士音乐比赛二等奖; 2013托西亚Jimmy Woode爵士乐比赛二等奖。作为唱片厂牌Honolulu records的创始人之一，2015年10月他与Nirguna乐队合作在Honolulu records发行了自己的第一张唱片“Lux”。
他还曾经在登上多个爵士音乐节的舞台,例如“UmbriaJazz”, “Tones onthe Stones”,“MITO Milano”, “JAZZ altroAbeat festival”,“Ah Um Jazz festival” 和“Sarpi inJazz”。他跟AntonioZambrini, Paolino Dalla Porta, Andrea Dulbecco, Pietro Tonolo, Tino Tracanna,Giovanni Falzone, Achille Succi, Guido Bombardieri, Dimitri Grechi Espinoza,Alberto Mandarini, Marco Decimo, Gaetano Partipilo, Gianluca Di Ienno, GiulioCorini, Andrea Di Biase合作过许多不同类型的项目,录制了数张由不同意大利爵士厂牌发布的唱片,如“Videoradio”, “Zonedi Musica”,“Dodicilune”和“Abeat”.
GIACOMO TAGLIAVIA
贝斯手和作曲家，2012年在米兰Sound Academy毕业获得爵士艺术家证书，2012年至2014年在科莫G.Verdi 音乐学院学习古典低音提琴和音乐理论。自2015年起在纽约市立大学学习爵士贝斯。作为贝斯手参与录制众多唱片包括"SuoniMobili”(GiovanniFalzone);"Django’s Roots”(Daniele Gregolin),"Penguin Village”(Gabriele Boggio Ferraris 4et),"Waiting for the One”(SugarPie &the Candymen);”Stereoscape”(Mario Ermoli Trio);"Spaghetti Gipsy”(Daniele Gregolin Clan Zingaro); “Shinnen"(WolfGang 4et)。2014年成为The Italian Jazz Dictionary荣誉会员，2013年被认定为Piacenza音乐学院音乐家代表，2010年及2012年被选为Sound Academy最佳低音提琴学生，2012年获Piacenza音乐学院Designated Assistant 奖。他演出经验丰富，曾在众多著名爵士俱乐部和剧院演奏，如CantinaBentivoglio Jazz Club; ZTL Theatre;Hot Club;MilestoneJazz Club;Padova Jazz Club; Biella Jazz Club，亦曾受邀参加众多爵士音乐节包括”EddieLang Music Festival”; “Lodi Jazz Festival”，”HIFA Festival”; “SuoniMobili Music Festival”; “Jazzit Festival”; “St.Gallen Jazz Festival”; “Lugano Jazz Festival”; “FestivalInternational in Cantabria”等等。
