EMBER SWIFT
Ember Swift is a Canadian musician and singer-songwriter who has been living inBeijing since 2008. She’s released 12 albums and 1 DVD over the years includingher most recent album "Sticks & Stones" (2017). It is acollection of work in three categories: Songs for Adults; Songs for Kids; and finally Songs for Adults w/ Kids. The latter category is a group Ember feels isunderserviced, especially since she became a mother of two in 2012 and 2013,respectively!
Thispast fall 2017, Ember completed a European Tour comprising of 10 shows in fourdifferent countries. Be on the look out for several new songs inspired by theroad!
EmberSwift’s music is decidedly eclectic and includes jazz, folk, funk, rock,cabaret and pop songs. She sings in English, Mandarin and French. Combined withher signature elastic-jazz vocals and poignant, astute lyrics, this"folk" artist becomes hard to categorize but impossible toforget. 加拿大艺术家子玉(Ember Swift)现居中国北京。自1996年起,她已经发行了11张专辑,并在很多国家拥有 忠实的粉丝。她的上一张专辑是她的第11张专辑,正好又发行在2011年,所以命名为”11:11”。目前子玉正在 录制新的作品并计划于2016年发行。
子玉讲一口流利的中文,丈夫又是中国人,对中国文化有着较深的理解,她的音乐也凸显出这种文化的交融 碰撞。比如歌词有中文、有英文、有法文(这两个都是加拿大的官方语言),在编配上除了常规的西方乐器也 用到了中国的传统乐器二胡。个人方面,子玉有着充满张力的嗓音,弹得一手好琴,她爵士风格的吉他演奏 独具一格,不仅如此,舞台上的她更有着迷人的气质。
With the inclusion of the Chinese traditional instrument (erhu) alongside of Western contemporary instruments, the performance and sound are both entertaining and unique. Couple this with Ember's signature elastickjazz vocals, eclectic music styles, and poignant, astute lyrics, and this "folk" artist becomes hard to categorize but impossible to forget.
Styles on this album include jazz, folk, gypsy, rock, R&B, electronic, pop, folk and even Klezmer. The band, assembled in Beijing, includes America’s Anthony Vanacore on the drums and Jeffery Gillman on bass, Israel’s Yoav Volansky on keys, and China’s Wang Ya Qi on the erhu.
