This Thursday, we welcome back saxophonist Alex Cummings and his quartet to help us get the early weekend started with some fun jazz tunes! Accompanying him this evening is Sharon Zhou on keys, Jongmoon Park on bass and Beibei on drums.

Alex Cummings is a saxophonist, flautist, clarinetist, composer, arranger and producer from Camden, New Jersey. Since the age of ten, Cummings started using the saxophone as a means of creative expression. His early musical development was fostered by his mentors Jamal Dickerson, Nasir Dickerson and Hassan Sabree. Cummings went on to win several solo awards in high school jazz band festivals such as Berklee High School Jazz festival (division 1) outstanding soloist and NJIAE state wide jazz festival outstanding soloist. Cummings also performed for Barack Obama’s 2009 presidential inauguration as part of Camden High Marching Band.
Alex Cummings 是来自新泽西州卡姆登的萨克斯手、长笛手、单簧管手、作曲家、编曲家和制作人。从十岁开始，Cummings 就开始用萨克斯作为一种创造性的表达方式。他早期的音乐发展是由他的导师 Jamal Dickerson, Nasir Dickerson 和 Hassan Sabree 培养的。Cummings 后来在高中爵士乐队音乐节上赢得了多个个人奖项，如 Berklee High School Jazz festival 杰出独奏者和 NJIAE state wide jazz festival 杰出独奏者。Cummings 还作为 Camden High Marching Band 的一员，为奥巴马2009年的总统就职典礼表演。
After graduating third in his high school class Cummings was accepted at Oberlin Conservatory on full scholarship studying under saxophone legend Gary Bartz. After graduating Oberlin Conservatory in Jazz Performance Cummings then moved to New York City in 2013 to attend Arron Copeland Music School for Jazz Composition under the study of Antonio Hart.. During his tenure at ACSM Cummings was simultaneously active in the New York City jazz scene performing with distinguished artists such as Billy Hart, Robin Eubanks, Alex Sipiagin, Antonio Hart, Lauren Sevian, Lew Soloff and many others.
Cummings 高中以第三名的成绩毕业后，被 Oberlin Conservatory 录取，获得全额奖学金，师从萨克斯管传奇人物 Gary Bartz。从 Oberlin Conservatory 爵士表演专业毕业后，Cummings 于2013年搬到纽约，在 Antonio Hart 的指导下，进入 Arron Copeland Music School 学习爵士作曲。在ACSM公司任职期间，他与 Billy Hart, Robin Eubanks, Alex Sipiagin, Antonio Hart, Lauren Sevian, Lew Soloff 等著名艺术家一起活跃于纽约市爵士乐舞台。
While in NYC, Cummings had also led and co-led several independent projects as leader including Alex Cummings Quartet, Twilyte Axis, Alex Cummings Big Band, Feve Band, Earthtone, and Street Beat Brass Band to name a few.

Since moving to Beijing, China in June 2019, Cummings has shared the stage with many of the city’s own prominent musicians as well as collaborating with distinguished artists throughout Asia including Karen Mok, Tia Ray, Matzka, Sam Lee and Zhou Shen to name a few. Cummings was also the in-house flautist and saxophonist for critically acclaimed Chinese TV singing show ‘Super Vocal’ for the past two seasons.
自2019年6月搬到中国北京以来，Cummings 与这座城市的许多著名音乐家同台演出，并与亚洲各地的著名艺术家合作，其中包括 Karen Mok、Tia Ray、Matzka、Sam Lee 和 Zhou Shen 等。在过去的两季中， Cummings 还在广受好评的中国电视歌唱节目《Super Vocal》中担任室内长笛手和萨克斯手。
While currently recording and performing saxophone and flute for various commercial projects, Cummings is currently producing his acoustic jazz album set to release Spring of 2020 and is launching his debut big band project in Beijing March 2020.

Sharon Zhou, is a jazz composer and pianist born in China. She learnt classical piano and jazz piano in Poland, Akademia Muzyczna im. Karola Szymanowskiego. After this, she graduated master degree from US, University of Nothern Colorado. Her playing is combined European and American jazz style, now is a professional musician in Beijing.
周欣韧，中国青年爵士钢琴家，毕业于美国北科罗拉多大学—爵士钢琴研究生，师从Dana Landry并获得UNC奖学金与助教的职位。本科毕业于波兰卡托维兹席曼诺夫斯基音乐学院，师从Pawel Tomaszewski并获得古典钢琴与爵士钢琴学位。在美国的学习中与Benny Golson，Eddie Gomez，Jeff Hailmton，Luques Curtis, Antonio Hart等爵士大师合作演出，持续两年在UNC/Greeley Jazz Festival上演出并全程担任爵士节策划工作，与Julie Koenig的合作获得了DownBeat 42 Annual Student Awards Outstanding Performance，并在UNC Jazz Festival上获得Outstanding Soloist奖项，2019在美国录制并发行自己的第一张原创爵士专辑。
BASS: JONGMOON PARK
贝斯: Jongmoon Park
Jongmoon Park is south korea bass player. He graduated Dongduk University for jazz studies. When he was in graduate school, he already got many major performing experiences such as famous “Daegu International Jazz Festival” before his graduation.
When Jongmun plays his instrument, he focus on team work and makes harmony with other instruments every moments.
He will show his many good points about sound, skill and harmony, made by lots of experiences with great musicians.
Jongmoon Park是一位来自韩国的贝斯手，曾在东国大学学习爵士乐。他早在研究生时期就已经积攒了丰富的演出经验。
在演出中，Jongmoon非常专注于与乐队成员的配合及和声的黏合度。在与众多优秀音乐家合作过程中，他练就了优秀的技巧与和声能力，这一切也将在他自己的演奏中呈现出来。
在校学习期间师从 Steve Altenberg, Joost Van Schaik, 和 Joost Patocka, 以及著名爵士鼓演 奏家 Matt Wilson，Jochen Rueckert, 古典打击乐演奏家 Morris “Arnie” Lang, 著名爵士贝斯演 奏家 Todd Coolman, Joris Teepe, 著名爵士结他演奏家 Jonathan Kreisberg, Frank Wingold, 著 名爵士钢琴家 David Berkman, 著名 SAX 演奏家 Michael Moore, Tinike Postma。
此外，还作为现场教学及演示会翻译与世界著名鼓手:steve smith, thomas lang, gregg bissonette, dave weckl, walfredo reyes Jr.,dom famulero, terreon gully, michael shrieve, jonathan blake，brady blade，will calhoun等人学习与交流.
