It is the most beautiful time of the year. Christmas is just around the corner and we are getiting into very festive mood at Modernista. Our kitchen prepared special holiday menu that will be served this week on Friday Dec 24th, and Saturday 25th resepctively. Make sure to book your tables in advance for proper homecooked taste of Christmas. This Monday is for Salsa Class and a dancee fiesta with Savor Latino live band. Drink and Draw on Tuesday will include both live music and poetry so come and join us for a night full of creativity. The only Swing Balboa Night for December is finally back on Wednesday, while J Kyle Bossa Band on Thursday will be bringing all the warmth of Brazilian beats to the frozen Beijing hutongs. Friday is all set for a Christmas Eve with Great Buffalo Blues plus DJ Vincent Von Rock. Stevie Mac and The Mac Daddies are so ready for a Christmas Day performance on Saturday. DJ Peng will be spinning tunes afterwards. Boxing Day on Sunday 26th brings us Takeshi Sakamoto's Jazz as a special gift.

We found the perfect equation for a Monday motivation: Salsa Dance Classes + Savor Latino live band + Mojitos. Your favorite dancing and party routine is back every Monday. There is no excuse to complain about winter blues anymore. Try out dance classes with Liyenni from 8:30 PM. She will make sure you are ready to take over the dance floor when Savor Latino live band sets on stage from 9:30 PM. Modernista is proudly announcing that we are back to our favorite mantra - Monday is the new Friday.

You all know that every edition of our Drink and Draw is accompanied by carefully curated music playlist. This Tuesday music will be live! Set of five pieces, named The Writing Myth Suite, premiered last month by Liane Ralton and Anthony Tao of Poetry x Music. They will be joined on stage by their regular crew - drummer Ryan Etzcorn and violinist Shawn Moore with the debut of Stanley Moore on the cello. The Writing Myth Suite tells the story of a relationship cycle: from exploratory love (“The Other Side”) to agitated love (“Crazy”) to settled love (“Summer 2020”) to terminal love (“The Widow”). The title piece, “Writing Myth,” begins:
In the mythology of us
we can rewrite our love.
Models will act out the story, via poses, alongside the music and poetry. Sharpen your pencils and senses. Join us, even if you're not an artist, for the night full of creativity.

After short hiatus, our favorite weekly activity is back. Join us this Wednesday for the only Swing dancing session this month. Winter time has tendency to put us all in a state of hibernation and we are not letting this happen! It is time to try and learn something new so book your December 22nd (Wednesday) for a Balboa Dance Trial starting from 8PM. Use this opportunity and get involved with one of the longest standing dance communities in the capital while learning more about this social dance and its cool cultural background. Balboa dance trial is created for people with no previous dance experience to have a glimpse of what partnered social dancing is like. The teachers will guide you through the basic steps and moves, so that everyone would be able to have some fun at the dance floor by 9 PM! It is not required, but highly recommended to bring a partner for the dance trial.
