导读:All countries have good sides and not so good here's my list of why I think China is the most amazin

My last letter on how China could improve their driving habits was generally received in the tone it was meant to be taken so this week I wish to jump to the other side and give my ideas why I think Jiangsu rules!

Now, while all countries have their good sides and not so good here is my list of why I think China is the most amazing place to live. The below list is not in any particular order and I’d love to hear your suggestions on why I’m wrong or any areas you think I might have left out.

1

Driving

Yes, I said it, driving. I know I wrote in my previous letter about how China should improve some areas of their driving habits but the one area that amazes me regarding Chinese driving it the relative lack of road rage here. I have seen drivers do some crazy things only for other motorists, cyclists, pedestrians not batting an eyelid and continuing happily on their way.

2

Safety

I think this might be the area I love the most about China. Having lived in major cities in the West I had developed a street-wiseness that always had me on alert. However, walking anywhere/anytime around any Jiangsu city I have visited leaves me in a carefree state of alert that is completely disarming. No troubled teens hanging around street corners, no drug addicts looking for an opportunity to swipe your belongings and no alcohol-fused drunks falling out of bars and clubs looking for trouble. I also find that this is one area that Chinese people really do not understand how lucky they are in the way their government protects them.

3

Open 24/7

It sometimes feels that China never sleeps. There are no such things as quiet Sunday afternoons where most shops and restaurants are closed.

Massive cities within minutes of each other

Nanjing, Changzhou, Wuxi, Suzhou and of course Shanghai all within minutes of each other on the high-speed train. Each city has so much to see and do that living in this area never gets dull.

5

Delivery (Kuaidi)

Shopping online is incredible here. While years ago it was tricky to find our home comfort foods or clothing sizes to suit foreigners needs/sizes but with the amazing Taobao &  getting everything you need delivered to your door within days is now easy-peasy.

快递(Kuaidi)

6

Chinese hospitality

You got to hand it to the Chinese. They are extremely considerate hosts. It amazes me how helpful the average person on the street can be despite the language barrier.

7

Government

I could count on one hand the number of government officials I had met before I came to China. But here in China, government officials can be seen everywhere. I am most impressed by the officials at the local investment promotion bureaus of individual cities who’s aim/goal is to promote/attract and assist business in their area. Of course, the foreign affairs offices do their utmost to support and assist foreign investment too.

8

Opportunities

With such a booming economy and a massive population, how could China not be a great place to be and prosper. For anyone who wants to work hard, it’s a great place to be.

9

Fruits/nuts/vegetables

Yeah, this might be a weird one but I do believe Chinese people eat better that us in relation to eating fruit, nuts, and seeds. No wonder so many locals over the age of 50 still look like they’re in their 30’s!

10

Can someone suggest a Number 10 for me?

leave your comments for #10
