The 9th annual BRICS summit is being held from Sept. 3 to Sept. 5.The southeastern Chinese city of Xiamen is all set to host leaders of the five BRICS countries: Russian President Vladimir Putin, Brazilian President Michel Temer, South African President Jacob Zuma and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Xiamen, a scenic city in China's Fujian Province, come into view now.

Xiamen lies off the west coast of Taiwan island in southeast China. With an area of nearly 1,700 square kilometers, the coastal city is twice the size of New York City.

Its average temperature is a cool 21 degrees Celsius, making it quite a comfortable city to live in all year round. 

Xiamen is also one of the cities with the best air quality in the country thanks to the trees that cover nearly half the city's area.

Xiamen isn't just all that. It's also known for its delicacies, architectures with exotic touch, Matsu worshiping, and Hokkien culture.

Gulangyu Island, the Longtou and the Zhongshan Roads are some of the must-see places, and it is there where you can find lip-smacking snacks like peanut soup, glutinous pudding, fried oysters and satay noodles. 

As a strategic point on both the land and sea routes, Xiamen plays quite a unique role in the Belt and Road Initiative.

It has been a major post for tea exports since the 16th century and was an international trading port in the middle of the 19th century. Today, cargo unloaded at the port can be swiftly carried by train through the China-Europe railway, much of which built within Russia. The Xiamen port also keeps close contacts with three other ports from the BRICS member countries.

Xiamen is a city with much to offer, with its breathtaking scenery, unique culture and strategic economic plans - no doubt, a fitting host city for the BRICS Summit.
