
Changzhou business environment among China's top 10
It is learned that Changzhou was recently listed in the Dataway Urban Big Data Institute's Top 100 Chinese Prefecture-level Cities by Business Environment rankings.
Dataway is a domestically renowned think tank that focuses on providing solutions and consulting services for government by utilizing its big data platforms and resources.
It had conducted a thorough analysis on the business environment of Chinese cities to compile the list. Urban functions, commercial vitality, governmental services, quality of life and humanistic environment were the five aspects considered during the ranking phase.
The prefecture-level cities in the top 10 were Suzhou, Dongguan, Wuxi, Foshan, Wenzhou, Changzhou, Xuzhou, Quanzhou, Jiaxing and Nantong.
Spring festival travel rush begins in Changzhou
The 2018 Spring Festival travel rush started on Feb 1. According to estimates, 29,808 people traveled through Changzhou via railway, down 28.57%; 94,409 people traveled by highway, down 6.88%; and 6,888 people traveled by airplane, up 1%.

To deal with the huge quantity of travelers, local departments have responded with temporary passenger trains and increased flights to ensure a smooth journey for everyone. Changzhou Transportation Group has added 18 bus trips. A total of 346 pairs of daily trains carried 3,919 passengers to and from Changzhou North Square. Changzhou Airport scheduled 61 flights from Changzhou to other cities, regions and countries.
Xinbei People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries established
On January 18, the founding ceremony and the first council meeting of Xinbei People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries was held in Xinbei District Government of Changzhou. The first session of the council voted to pass the charter of the association. Xue Jiannan, chairman of the Xinbei District Committee of CPPCC, was elected as the president of the association.Bai Suning, present of Jiangsu People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (JSPAFFC) attaches great importance to the work and organization of the People’s Associations for Friendship with Foreign Countries at all levels. According to the instructions of the JSPAFFC, Changzhou People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CZPAFFC) gave great support and guidance to Xinbei during the preparation for Xinbei People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. On the very day, Cai Xisheng, member of the CPC Committee of Provincial Foreign Affairs Office and vice chairman of the JSPAFFC, made a special trip to Changzhou to attend the event.
At the meeting, Zhou Weidong, secretary general of the JSPAFFC, read out a congratulatory letter sent by the JSPAFFC. At the meeting, Cai Xisheng and CZPAFFC’s president Zou Hongguo, unveiled the plague of Xinbei People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, together with the leaders of Xinbei. Du Jibin, director of Changzhou Municipal Foreign Affairs Office and vice president of the CZPAFFC, and Sima Shuanglong, deputy director of the Municipal Foreign Affairs Office and vice president of CZPAFFC, attended the event.
Dutch firm AkzoNobel setting up new plant in Changzhou
Global paints and coatings company AkzoNobel said it expects its business growth in the Chinese market to "maintain the current momentum" in the coming years, despite concerns that tightening housing policy could deal a blow to the industry. The Chinese market generated 1.77 billion euros ($2.20 billion) in revenue for it in 2016, down 3.3 percent from 1.83 billion euros a year earlier, according to the company's annual report. AkzoNobel now operates in around 80 countries with 46,000 employees globally, with its China-based staff comprising 15 percent. The chemicals company owns a number of well-known brands, including Dulux, Sikkens, International, Interpon and Eka. It is the coatings supplier for many famous buildings in China, including Hong Kong's IFC and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. The company is investing actively in China to strengthen its presence in the country. A new plant producing powder coatings is coming up in Changzhou of eastern Jiangsu province.
