Children's Day - Knowing the World’s Heaviest Child

While parents are celebrating children's day for their kids today in China,  some children are struggling with their weight.  Don't feed your children too much.

The world’s heaviest child has shed almost 31.8 kilograms after becoming the youngest person to ever undergo a gastric sleeve operation.

Arya Permana from Karawang in West Java, Indonesia, underwent a five-hour operation after doctors told his parents that if he didn’t, he would die.

He, 11-year-old, who last month weighed 190.5 kilograms, weighed the same as six boys his own age and struggled to walk more than five minutes at a time.

After years of over-feeding him, parents Ade and Rokayah Soemantri travelled with their son to the Omni hospital in Jakarta, Arya. The extensive surgery, which was performed by Dr Handi-Wing, saw a large portion of Arya’s stomach removed – making it banana-shaped.

The surgery aim was to curb the boy’s appetite, making him feel fuller for longer. Doctors had called Arya’s condition ‘one of the toughest cases of obesity in the world’ adding if the situation was not controlled it could have proved fatal

But just a month after surgery Arya has already lost nearly 31.8 kilograms and he is expected to lose close to 95.3 kilograms  in one year.Prior to his surgery, Arya was living on a daily diet of fried chicken, rice, noodles and chocolate ice cream.

Failing to realise the seriousness of their son’s condition, Arya’s parents continued to feed their son greasy curries and high-cholesterol snacks.Ade said: ‘He ate like he had no sense of being full. Every time he had two packets of noodles and two eggs.

‘More than half a kilo of chicken and then there was rice. This could be four to six times a day.‘The saddest thing was watching Arya try to get up. He would get out of breath just walking five metres. We were very worried.’

It was only when their son’s health reached a near critical condition that Ade and mum Rokayah Soemantri accepted their son needed urgent help.

Rokayah said: ‘I am the one the most to blame. I regret it because it’s my fault. I didn’t control how much I fed him. I keep feeding Arya because I love my child.’

When he was born Arya weighed a healthy 8.3 lbs and didn’t start gaining weight until he was five.

He then gained a staggering 127 kilograms in four years. Struggling to come to terms with the severity of the operation, Rokayah initially refused before realising her son’s near-critical condition.

Arya has a long way to go but is already planning what he will do once he loses more weight.He said: ‘I’m going to play with my friends in the pool, play football and ride bicycles.’

多年来，帕玛纳每天要吃五顿饭，一次性行走5分钟对他来说都是一个挑战。他的父母最终被说服：要么接受手术，要么帕玛纳将死去。

于是一个月前，帕玛纳在印尼首都雅加达接受了长达5个小时的胃部分切除术，成为全球接受此手术的年龄最小患者。现在，帕玛纳已经减重了62斤，几乎减掉了他原先体重的六分之一。

医院方面表示，在接下来的12个月内，他还将持续减重200斤左右。报道称，在手术前，帕玛纳每天的饮食就是吃炸鸡、大米饭、面条和巧克力冰淇淋。

帕玛纳的父亲是一名保安，今年45岁。这名父亲表示，他的儿子完全不知道什么叫“饱”，总想不停的吃。帕玛纳每顿要吃2包面条、2个鸡蛋、一斤鸡肉，还有大米，而且每天要吃四到六顿。“最难过的是看他挣扎着站起来，走上5米他就喘不上气了。我们都很担心。”

帕玛纳的母亲今年35岁，她对儿子的过度肥胖表示自责，认为这是她的错，因为她没有控制好儿子的饮食，因为太爱孩子，所以就一直喂他。

帕玛纳出生的时候，体重为7.4斤，属于正常范围，而且在5岁前的体重增长也正常，但是在接下来的4年里，他一下子长到了254斤，这才开始引起大家的注意。
