Coffee
Early North African Muslim shepherds discovered a kind of plant in the mountains of Ethiopia , which made sheep energetic and have good appetite. So the shepherd try the plant themselves and found its good refreshing effect on the people. They turned to used the beans as a morning drink and spread them to Yemen.
The Islamic followers there persisted on night worship and prayer, by means of this new drink,they could reduce sleep. In 1650,the beans were shipped to Vienna by a Turkish businessman businessmen. 5 years later, the first coffee store of world was set up in the UK. Up till now, Coffee has become the most popular drink around the world.
Camera
The ancient Greeks had made a study on how the eyes could see things , they found the image of the object go into the eyes through the pupils and then imaging, the brain receives the impression after that. In the 10th century AD, a Muslim mathematician, physicist and astronomer, Ibn Al-Haitham read the writings of the ancient Greeks, then he tried to test the theory. The well known test, Pinhole Imagine, proved to be the basic principles of photography.
He named the test “Qamara” in Arabic , and it become Latin later , that`s the current "camera."
International Chess
Chess is an original Indian folk game, two players, simple rules . The Persian businessman discovered the game later and set rules to change it into an international intellectual game.
The Persians spread the chess from India to Muslim Spain, then landed in mainland Europe , and then to Asia. ln Japan, it become the new international chess, but still retains some Persian words like “Rukh”.
Airplane
The original test of airplane was made by an Arab, Abbas Ibn Fimas, 1000 years ago. In 852 AD, he imitated the birds wings with two wide drapery as the wings. He glided down from the Cordoba mosque minarets , and only got lightly scratched. He went on the study for more than 20 years, when he was 70 years old, he made the new wings with silk and eagle feathers. This time he floated in the air for ten minutes.
He assessed flight experiment as “close to success”, just lacking of a wind direction control at the tail. His name is wrote into the history of Islamic science, modern Baghdad International Airport is named after him.
Arabic Number
This invention may be the most famous one around the world , the Arabs are fully deserve the inventors. In the year of 825 years AD, there are many great mathematicians in Arabia, such as Al-Khwarizmi and Al-Kindi. Their masterpieces ,《 Algebra 》,for example ,had been printed at the time and landed in Europe after 300 years .
The system of Arabic Number was formed by those masterpieces, and become well known since then.
Thanks to the contributions of the Muslim, the world has become more beautiful. So, we should be grateful and remember the inventors from now on.
