
Good news for anyone wanting to soak in the sights of the Chinese capital without going through the hassle of getting a tourist visa, the government is planning to extend the 144 hour (6 day) transit permit to Beijing, Tianjin and the surrounding Hebei Province.

The policy will be exactly the same as the current 6 day transit permit that's been in use for the Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang Province area along with Guangdong Province.
The policy is available for citizens of 51 different countries who have a flight out of Beijing, Tianjin or Hebei within 144 hours after arriving in the area.

Currently Beijing and Tianjin have a visa free stay for 72 hours, the policy is expected to be doubled to 144 hours sometime by the end of this year according to the vice-mayor of Beijing.

The government hopes that the new rules will help facilitate "the free circulation of resources" in Beijing and the surrounding area.
Local authorities also plan to reduce various investment restrictions in service sectors such as aviation, culture and arts, publication, banks, legal services, tourism and medical research and development. The new amendments will streamline such regulations for foreigns looking to invest in various sectors in the capital.
