Details of the New Rule
On March 2, WeChat official gave a notice on punishing gambling accounts, saying:
According to laws, online gambling is regarded as an delinquent activity which leaves great negative impacts on WeChat users.
Punitive Measures
On February 8, WeChat official announced that they would keep cracking down on online gambling behaviors during Spring Festival.
Recently, according to verified data provided by users and related regulation, more than 6,000 chatting groups and 40 thousand accounts involved in gambling activities subject to different levels of punishments.
Meanwhile, WeChat official intends to sensitize and educate the public both online and offline to enhance awareness of self-protection from gambling. If online gambling activity is found online, the official will be willing to cooperate with the police to crack down on such unlawful misbehavior.
